“I need cheap things, and with medical insurance I need cheap medical insurance.” This is a statement you would not labor to hear if you are the kind who enjoys listening to other people’s conversations possibly in a taxi, subway, and train or at your favorite evening rest spot. Many people would honestly admit an inner need for cheap medical insurance and surely cheap things in all aspects.
But a question arises; do you really need cheap medical insurance? If you do, is it really as cheap as it sounds? It is not being pessimistic to suggest that there is a bad side to every good thing and indeed all coins are double sided. So have we bothered to look at the other side of cheap medical insurance? We shall first look at why people often look for cheap medical insurance.
The craze for cheap medical insurance is not without reason. It is true that cheap medical insurance has several advantages which convince many people that it is all they need. Many people will confess liking cheap medical insurance because it is affordable. By mere hearing that it is cheap, then it looks like it will be easy to service. This is justified by the need to save, that is spend less on medical insurance and have something left to spend on other important necessities. Yes, this is right and indeed convincing but we shall continue to ask; is cheap medical insurance really cheap?
When seeking medical insurance coverage, many people compare the various health insurance providers available on the market to find out who offers medical insurance at the least cost. Whereas this is commendable, the cost alone may not be all you need! Look at a situation where medical insurance is offered at a low cost and therefore said to be cheap when in real sense it does not cover all your medical needs. An insurer may dwarf your medical insurance coverage under the guise of customizing it or reducing its cost and as result make such insurance coverage unable to cover all your medical risks or needs. So if we may again ask ourselves; do we really need medical insurance coverage which will leave us exposed to risk? And in that case is such medical insurance coverage eligible for being called cheap?
The answers to these questions are most likely negative, giving credit to the fact that cheap medical insurance may not necessarily be cheap and therefore desirable. So in our quest for cheap medical insurance we need to not only look at the cost aspect but also at the extent of coverage. The medical insurance coverage we all need is one that adequately covers all our medical risks and needs and thus leaves us perfectly protected. That is the essence of insurance!
Medical insurance may also be provided at a very cheap cost when the medical insurance claim procedure attached to it is bureaucratic, slow and some times hard to satisfy. Different medical insurance providers have different medical insurance claim procedures. It is a wise idea to choose a medical insurance provider who will not give you headache to claim medical insurance compensation at times of need. In other words, a medical insurance provider is only worthy dealing with if they can come to your rescue when you need them. That is the bare minimum!
It is therefore not reasonable to get cheap medical insurance which will not save you from your medical risks when you need it and at worst, which will never be of any use at all.
So beware, cheap medical insurance may not be as cheap.
Certainly not! As said earlier, it has another face. We did agree that all coins have two sides, and so is cheap medical insurance.
Cheap medical insurance is not necessarily bad. It is very good and indeed desirable because of affordability. We must also point out that it is not strict that for medical insurance to be cheap, it must be inadequate and possibly not covering all the medical needs of the clients. The presence of several medical insurance providers means that medical insurance will be provided at different rates and that gives birth to something cheaper. Indeed cheap medical insurance can exist genuinely without any hidden costs and in that case it is preferable because it fosters savings and expenditure on other essentials. Being affordable means it meets all clients need for value for their every penny. That is nice to hear. Isn’t it?
So it only goes as far as your imagination can go. Go ahead and discover the heights!
