Self Employed Health Insurance

Insurance has for long seemed to be for only people who are employed by others, either by government or international bodies, or big corporate firms.  But not all of us have that kind of job.  Increasingly people are working for themselves.  They are virtually self-employed, working in their own farms, shops, garages, and many more personal investments.  Whereas working for oneself can be fun and pleasurable, it has at times come as a handicap to many, at least in terms of their health insurance.

Don’t we think it is time to change that trend?  Being self employed should not mean being ignorant about health insurance.  Thank God we can now hear of self employed health insurance!  So what is self employed health insurance?

The meaning of self employed health insurance

Simply stated, self employed health insurance refers to health insurance coverage provided for people working in personal business.  As many more people continue to work outside the traditional employment quadrant of working for other people, either as business owners, investors or even as apprentices, health insurance providers have discovered that there is an even greater need for self employed health insurance.  Such health insurance coverage is normally paid by the individual seeking the insurance who also doubles as the personal employer.  With self employed health insurance, health insurance world is no longer restricted to people working in public, international or private firms in the subordinate-boss structure. Someone working on personal business also has the opportunity to get and indeed pay for his or her own health insurance.

Self employed health insurance may be designed to cover the health needs or risks of the individual seeking the insurance or his or her health risks together with those of his or her immediate family (spouse, children and other direct dependants).  It may also be acquired on a short term or long term basis.  Whatever the nature of the coverage, self employed health insurance is sought and paid for by the person seeking it.  Such a person(s) is usually self-employed.  self employed health insurance should be the perfect solution to the insurance need of those of us who work in personal business.  And indeed if we have the freedom to supervise and work according to our own wishes, why shouldn’t we have the freedom and right to acquire the best health insurance?

The Need for Self Employed Health Insurance

Being self employed does not take away the fact that we are also human. Does it?  It thus follows that like any other human being, freely born and bred, people working in personal business need efficient health insurance coverage.  The health needs or risks that people working for government or private firms have are pretty the same as those of self employed persons.  So why should health insurance be restricted to only those working for others?  There is no reason it should be that way and hence the need for self employed health insurance.

Self employment comes with a lot of freedom.  It does not only mean you do not have to fear being fired but also that you can generally do what you want at a time you want and in the way you want to do it.  That sounds like perfect freedom.  Doesn’t it?  I hope it does.  But there is more to personal freedom than meets the eye.

A person who has a perpetual fear for probable health risks is not free at all.  Consider a man with all the power to do whatever he wants but, with no power to decide on his own destiny, not even the type of medication he wants. Such a person is not free. Or is he?  For long people working in government or for big private firms have been priding in being better than self employed persons because at least for them, the employer pays their health insurance.  And that is reasonable. Isn’t it?

But with self employed health insurance, there is no more superiority just because the employer pays the health insurance because I can be self employed and pay for my own health insurance.  So have you enrolled for self employed health insurance?

Yes indeed, we have seen the reason why we should all have our health risks insured, no matter whether we work for others or not.  So to all those who are self employed; you have the freedom yes, but is your health insured?
