Posing this same question to a colleague who is self-employed, he responds; "Where is your brain, man? What are you saying?" "Everyone is looking for an opportunity of being under control of his own life," she continues, "... how can you compare self-employment to disability?"
Although I did explain that I meant no offence, she could not understand whether I was with all the right senses. To her, there is nothing that could prompt one to have such a weird thought. But why did I thing so 'weird'? It was because of medical insurance. Yes, medical insurance. Medical insurance has for long looked a reserve for only people who are employed by others, either by government or international bodies and, or big corporate firms. This is why I thought self employment may be rather a disability! Many people work in their own farms, shops, workshops, and many other personal investments. Whereas working for oneself can be fun and pleasurable, it has at times come as a handicap to many, at least in terms covering of their medical insurance needs.
So, come to think about it; isn't self employment a handicap in that sense? It would be but it may not remain so for long because of the existence of self employed medical insurance! So what is self employed medical insurance?
In simple terms, self employed medical insurance means medical insurance coverage provided for people working in personal business. As many more people continue to work outside of the traditional employment where people work for other people more than ever before, there is an even greater need for self employed medical insurance. Such medical insurance coverage is normally paid by the individual seeking the insurance who is also the personal employer. With self employed medical insurance, medical insurance is no longer a preserve of people working in public, international or private firms in the subordinate-boss structure. Someone working on personal business also has the opportunity to get and indeed pay for his or her own medical insurance. And when they get the medical need or risk, they are equally compensated. The end to self-employed medical insurance disability. Isn't it?
Self employed medical insurance may be designed to cover the medical related risks of the individual seeking the insurance or his or her medical risks together with those of his or her immediate family (spouse, children and other direct dependants). It may also be acquired on a short term or long term basis. Whatever the nature of the insurance coverage, self employed medical insurance is sought and paid for by the person seeking it. Such a person(s) is usually self-employed. self employed medical insurance should be the perfect solution to the insurance need of those of us who work in personal business. Isn't that looking like a pretty new world of equality?
Yes, why not? Being self employed should not be a handicap and in extreme cases, it should not make us make us look inhuman. Or should it? Like any other human being, those of us who work in personal business equally need medical insurance coverage. The medical needs or risks that people working for government or private firms have are pretty the same as those of self employed persons. So why should medical insurance be restricted to only those working for others? There is no reason it should be that way and hence the need for self employed medical insurance.
Gone are the days when self-employed persons stayed in perpetual fear for probable medical risks and looking as if they are ignorant of medical insurance. How can a person with all the power to do whatever he wants but be with no power to decide on his own destiny, not even the type of medication he wants? That must not continue. Must it? For long people working in government or for big private firms have been priding in being better than self employed persons because at least for them, the employer pays their medical insurance. And that is justified pride. Isn’t it?
But with self employed medical insurance, there is no more superiority just because the employer pays the medical insurance because I can be self employed and pay for my own medical insurance. So have you enrolled for self employed medical insurance?
Yes indeed, we have seen the reason why we should all have our medical risks insured, no matter whether we work for others or not. So to all those who are self employed; you have the freedom yes, but are your medical risks insured?
